Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) is set to resume direct flights to the United Kingdom after Eidul Fitr, marking a significant step in restoring its international operations, Pakistan’s High Commissioner to the UK, Dr. Muhammad Faisal, announced.

Addressing an iftar dinner in London attended by journalists, social media influencers, and dignitaries, Dr. Faisal confirmed that the national carrier will initially reinstate flights from London and Manchester to Pakistan, with efforts underway to include Birmingham in the near future.

The high commissioner emphasized that the resumption will be accompanied by a formal opening ceremony, with media representatives invited to cover the event.

He clarified that the decision to restore flights is separate from any technical concerns regarding aircraft landings, assuring that necessary regulatory measures have been met.

PIA’s decision to resume UK operations follows its re-entry into European airspace earlier this year. The airline restarted flights to Europe on January 10, 2025, with its first direct service to Paris after a four-and-a-half-year suspension.

The European Union had banned PIA operations in June 2020, citing safety concerns after a tragic plane crash in Karachi.

The crisis deepened when Pakistan’s then-Aviation Minister revealed that several pilots had been employed with fake licenses, prompting regulatory scrutiny.

Following extensive safety upgrades and compliance measures, the EU lifted the ban, allowing PIA to resume flights to European destinations.

The airline’s upcoming return to the UK further reflects Pakistan’s efforts to rebuild its international aviation ties.
