As part of heightened security measures during Muharram, the Sindh government has imposed a province-wide ban on pillion riding on the 9th and 10th of Muharram.

A formal notification announcing the restriction has been issued.

In addition, the provincial government has enforced Section 144 across Sindh starting from the 1st of Muharram.

The measure prohibits all public gatherings and processions without prior authorization. A separate notification detailing the enforcement of Section 144 has also been released.

Meanwhile, the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee will convene in Quetta on Thursday, June 26, to determine the sighting of the Muharram-ul-Haram crescent.

The meeting will be chaired by Maulana Abdul Khabeer Azad, the committee’s chairman. Zonal Ruet-e-Hilal Committees will hold parallel sessions in their respective regions.

According to the Pakistan Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (SUPARCO), the crescent for Muharram 1447 AH is expected to be visible on the evening of June 26, signaling the beginning of the Islamic New Year on June 27.

SUPARCO reports that the new moon will be born on June 25 at 3:32 PM, and will likely be visible for approximately 75 minutes after sunset along Pakistan’s coastal areas. If confirmed, the 10th of Muharram (Ashura) is expected to fall on Saturday, July 6.
