PM Shehbaz announces one-month extension in fuel subsidy for motorcyclists, public transport

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Thursday decided to continue relief measures for economically vulnerable segments of society in view of the prevailing situation, according to an official statement.

The prime minister approved a one-month extension in the subsidy provided last month for motorcyclists as well as public and goods transport. He also directed authorities to ensure that fares for commuters and freight charges are not increased.

While approving the continuation of the relief measures, the premier emphasised the need for effective monitoring to ensure that the benefits reach deserving individuals directly.

He noted that the federal government, in collaboration with provincial administrations, had provided a multi-billion-rupee relief package for the common man during difficult times. “We will continue to provide maximum possible relief to the public under these circumstances,” he said, adding that supporting ordinary citizens would remain the government’s top priority.

Sharif also expressed hope for an early improvement in the regional situation so that stability in petroleum product prices could be achieved.
