Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif demanded on Friday to waive the debt of climate change-affected nations for sustainable development.
Speaking at a virtual meeting of the Global Call ahead of the United Nations Summit of the Future, the premier highlighted the issues of the climate change-affected nations.
“Poverty and debts are blurring the concept of collectivity, loans of the climate change-affected countries should be waived,” said PM Shehbaz.
He believed that the concept of collectivity was at constant risk, “equality and justice should be our constant focus,” which were facing challenges due to the escalating disputes in the world.
Primer Shehbaz expressed the need for a global framework for continuous development and “a sustainable development required concessional financial assistance.”
“Illegal occupations over the territory of other countries are inverse to the concept of collectivity, and the trend of biases is harming the collectivity,” he noted.
PM Shehbaz stressed a comprehensive and everlasting solution to address the debt challenges and highlighted the role of technology in the development of nations.
“Modern technology provides ways of development, including South Asian nations all should have access to technology, and ease to access can make people empower."
Premier Shahbaz said potential misuse of modern technology should be curbed by establishing an effective protective system, “injustice and inequality create space for stigmatised people locally and globally.”
The Prime Minister ended his speech by vowing to avail the Summit of the Future as an opportunity for global cooperation.
