India’s Chief Justice under fire after declining to view protest videos

New Delhi: India's Chief Justice Surya Kant has clarified his decision not to view videos allegedly showing police baton-charging protesters at Jantar Mantar, saying no constitutional petition on the matter had been filed before the court.

Responding to criticism, Chief Justice Surya Kant said the court had received only a letter from a lawyer regarding the incident and that such correspondence could not be treated as a constitutional petition.

Meanwhile, protests in India over the alleged examination paper leak continued, with student demonstrators rejecting Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent remarks on the issue.

According to a spokesperson for the protest group referred to as the "Cockroach Janata Party" in the statement, the government has been informed that demonstrations will intensify unless the country's education minister resigns.

The spokesperson added that, if their demands are not met, the protest movement could be expanded nationwide.
