An important meeting is expected between Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and US President Donald Trump during the Pakistani premier’s visit to the United Nations.
According to sources, consultations supported by Qatar and Saudi Arabia have paved the way for this meeting, while the Pakistani embassy has chosen not to confirm or deny the development.
The agenda is likely to cover the impact of Israeli attacks on Qatar, the recent floods in Pakistan, and the regional situation between Pakistan and India. Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir is also expected to be present.
Efforts to finalise the meeting’s schedule appear to be moving successfully, with September 25 being considered as the likely date. As per reports, the meeting will take place after visits by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Field Marshal Asim Munir to Doha and Riyadh, with discussions shaped by the recent conference of Muslim countries in Doha.
Although President Trump will address the UN General Assembly on September 23 and host a traditional reception for world leaders, informed sources indicate that the detailed meeting is likely to be held in Washington on September 25.
