An 18-year-old woman who had been missing for four days died during treatment at the District Headquarters (DHQ) Hospital in Jhang on Monday, prompting police to launch an investigation into the circumstances surrounding her death.
According to police, the woman, a resident of Sultan Colony and a first-year college student, left her home on June 4 and did not return. Her family later reported her missing.
Police said the victim's parents received a phone call on Sunday evening informing them that their daughter was at a private hospital. However, before they arrived, she had been shifted to the DHQ Hospital, where she remained under treatment overnight.
The woman succumbed to her condition on Monday, police said.
The victim's father alleged that his daughter had been abducted and sexually assaulted before being killed. He appealed to Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz to ensure justice and bring those responsible to account.
Police officials said the exact cause of death would be determined after the post-mortem examination report is received.
A case of abduction against unidentified suspects has been registered at Satellite Town Police Station on the complaint of the victim's father.
Investigators said they were examining all aspects of the case and had launched efforts to identify and arrest those involved.
