Swat police have failed to arrest any of the culprits involved in the killing of a tourist, who was burned to death by an enraged mob for allegedly desecrating the Holy Quran on Thursday night.

The harrowing incident took place in Madyan area of Swat where an angry mob tortured a man, whose identity is still unknown, on allegations of blasphemy.

According to local sources, the mob was incited by announcements made in the market and mosques, alleging that the victim had committed blasphemy.

The police were unable to contain the situation, and the mob stormed the police station, demanding that the suspect be handed over to them.

Later, the crowd paraded the victim naked on the street, pelted stones at him, and then set him on fire.

According to the law enforcers, the victim had come to Swat from Sialkot to spend Eid vacations.

However, the police have lodged a First Information Report (FIR) against only two persons out of hundreds for burning the man alive.

Sources said that no arrests have been made thus far, reportedly due to pressure from local clerics.

Following the distressing incident, religious scholars have condemned the mob lynching, saying Islam does not permit the killing of anyone on mere allegations, without proper investigation and evidence.
