Delegations of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) met in Gilgit to discuss proposals for the formation of a new government in Gilgit-Baltistan following the recent regional elections.

According to statements issued by both parties, the meeting focused on possible arrangements for government formation, political cooperation and other national and regional matters. The proposals discussed during the meeting will now be presented to the central leadership of both parties for further consideration.

The PPP described the discussions as a significant step forward in the consultation process and maintained that the people of Gilgit-Baltistan had given it the mandate by making it the largest party in the elections.

Party leaders said all decisions regarding the formation of the next government would be taken in line with democratic principles, political consultations and public interest.

The PML-N said several proposals were reviewed during the meeting and both sides agreed to continue consultations before reaching a final decision.

The PPP delegation included Secretary General Nayyar Hussain Bukhari, Qamar Zaman Kaira, Sharjeel Inam Memon and Nasir Hussain Shah. The PML-N delegation was led by Minister for Kashmir Affairs and Gilgit-Baltistan Amir Muqam and former GB chief minister Hafiz Hafeezur Rehman.
