Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has demanded the government to feature former prime minister Zulfikar Ali Bhutto's portrait on currency notes.

The demand from the ex-foreign minister was put forward during a seminar in Lahore on PPP's founding father's legacy and history on Sunday.

In the seminar, Benazir Bhutto's party also passed a resolution to declare Zulfikar Ali Bhutto as a national hero.

Talking to the participants of the seminar, Bilawal Bhutto lauded the Supreme Court's landmark verdict, in which the apex court that Zulfikar Ali Bhutto was not given a chance for a fair trial in a case related to his execution in 1979 during the martial law of General Zia-ul-Haq.

“Zulfikar Ali Bhutto did not get a fair trial and it was not in accordance with the Constitutional requirement of due process," the short order by a 9-member bench led by Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Qazi Faez Isa read.

“We consider this decision as historic and now when the court itself has admitted that Zulfikar Ali Bhutto’s punishment was wrong, we should carry out judicial reforms. The judiciary can also bring its own reforms but this is primarily the function of parliament,” Asif Zardari's son said in his speech.

Juniour Bhutto also called for holding dialogues between the political parties to steer the country out of crisis.

“The people are troubled by price-hike, unemployment and poverty. In addition to these, terrorism is also an issue for the country and the people. If politicians do not talk to each other, how these issues could be resolved,” he said.
