Pakistan People's Party (PPP) leader Akhunzada Chattan narrowly escaped a blast in Mamund tehsil of Bajaur district in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, according to police.

The explosion occurred near Chattan's vehicle, but he remained unharmed as he was inside a bomb-proof vehicle at the time.

Chattan, who is the PPP's candidate for NA-8 in the upcoming by-elections on April 21, was targeted in the incident.

The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) had previously postponed elections in Bajaur's NA-8 and PK-22 following the killing of Rehan Zeb Khan, an independent candidate backed by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), in the Siddiqabad area of Bajaur.

Khan was shot dead during his election campaign, with unidentified assailants opening fire on his vehicle, resulting in his death and injuries to four others.

As a result, the ECP issued a notification to delay the polls for NA-8 and PK-22.
