President Asif Ali Zardari has tested negative for COVID-19 but will remain hospitalised for a few more days as part of his ongoing treatment, his physician Dr Asim Hussain confirmed on Friday.
Speaking to local news, Dr Asim stated that while the president no longer has an active COVID-19 infection, he remains under the observation of infectious disease specialists at a private hospital in Karachi.
He also revealed that physiotherapy is being administered as part of the recovery process.
President Zardari initially tested positive for COVID-19 on April 2 and was subsequently moved from Nawabshah to Karachi for better medical care. Since then, he has remained in isolation, with multiple diagnostic tests conducted to monitor his health.
Dr Asim said the decision to transfer the president to Karachi proved effective, as his condition has shown steady improvement. “Experts from the infectious diseases department examine him three times a day,” he added.
Visitors have not been allowed during the president’s hospital stay, and his family continues to receive regular updates on his condition.
Earlier, Sindh Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon dismissed rumours that President Zardari would be shifted abroad for treatment, stating that the president’s condition was improving and he would recover fully.
