Protesters blocked Karachi’s II Chundrigar Road on Monday morning in response to the Railway Department’s ongoing anti-encroachment drive.

The demonstration severely disrupted traffic and caused inconvenience to commuters during peak hours.

Last week, the Railway Department declared several shops constructed on railway-owned land as illegal and proceeded to demolish them, sparking outrage among local shopkeepers and residents.

Protesters claimed the drive severely impacted their livelihoods, as many families depend on the income from these businesses.

Despite the backlash, railway authorities remain firm in their stance, stating that the shops were unauthorised structures built over the years on government land and will be removed as part of the broader anti-encroachment drive.
