The religious-political party Majlis Wahdat-e-Muslimeen (MWM) expanded its protests in Karachi, blocking major roads at ten locations across the city, causing major inconvenience for commuters.

The demonstrations are being held over the Parachinar incident, leaving the commuters stranded, as multiple sit-ins were underway in the key areas, including Numaish Chowrangi, Abul Hasan Isphahani Road, and University Road, with traffic custodians scrambling the vehicles through alternative routes.

According to the latest development, MWM-led protesters have been expanding their demonstration in Karachi since yesterday, now staging in 10 places, and all road links to these areas have been closed to traffic.

A sit-in was staged at Kamran Chowrangi of Gulistan-e-Jauher, causing a diversion of traffic towards the university road.

They were also staging protest at Surjani, Shamsuddin Azimi Road, Nawab Sadiq Khan Road, Nazimabad No. 1. According to the traffic police, traffic going to Nazimabad No. 2 is being diverted from Lasbela to Teen Hatti.

Ancholi Road has also been closed to traffic as protesters have sat there.

Similarly, the protesters were demonstrating at the Star Gate, causing severe pressure on traffic on both sides at Sharah-e-Faisal.

Apart from this, the authority closed the link roads at the national highway that connects Karachi to Thatta.

“We have not only provided alternative routes to the citizen but also disputed traffic cops for both day and night shifts to ensure smooth flow of traffic,” Dawn quoted DIG traffic.

Multiple sit-ins organised by the MWM over the killing of Parachinar continued in the metropolis for the fifth consecutive day on Saturday.

However, a central leader of MWM declared that their protest was “peaceful, not causing any problem for citizens and if there’s any problem then the government is responsible.”
