Omar Ayub announced that the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party will challenge the verdict in the Nikkah in Iddat case, which was recently handed down by the Islamabad district and sessions court.

Speaking to media representatives, Ayub criticized the handling of the case, alleging political motivations behind the proceedings.

Ayub stated that the case itself lacked technical complexities but claimed it was manipulated for political purposes. He highlighted comments from Kanwal Shauzab, who asserted that Bushra Bibi, the wife of PTI founder Imran Khan, had been unfairly implicated in the case.

The court's decision to not suspend the sentences has sparked significant controversy. Omar Ayub emphasized that justice was essential in this case, which he described as straightforward, involving only the personal matters of a husband and wife.

Ayub confirmed that PTI would promptly appeal the court's decision in the Islamabad High Court (IHC). He also made broader allegations, claiming that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif had obtained his position through the ECP’s Form-47, but had been exposed in the National Assembly.

He called for the release of Imran Khan, Bushra Bibi, and other prisoners associated with PTI, asserting that their movement would gain momentum following this legal challenge.

The Islamabad District and Sessions Court, presided over by District and Sessions Judge Afzal Majoka, had rejected the appeals of Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi against their convictions in the Nikkah in Iddat case. The judge's reserved decision, announced on Thursday, upheld the couple's sentences.

In response to the court's ruling, PTI has declared its intention to immediately challenge the verdict in the IHC, aiming to overturn the convictions and secure the release of their party leader and his wife.

The case has drawn significant attention, with PTI leaders arguing that it represents a misuse of legal processes for political ends. As PTI prepares to take its fight to the higher courts, the outcome of this legal battle could have far-reaching implications for the party and its leadership.

Omar Ayub concluded his media address by reaffirming PTI's commitment to pursuing justice and continuing their political campaign with renewed vigor.
