Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Tuesday claimed that its supporter’s aged father, identified as Ahmed Khan, 80, was allegedly killed after being tortured in police custody in Mandi Bahauddin city of Punjab.
The First Information Report (FIR) was registered against the SHO and other personnel in the district police office under sections 302 (punishment of murder), 342 (punishment for wrongful confinement), 148 (rioting, armed with a deadly weapon), 149 (every member of unlawful assembly guilty of the offence committed in prosecution of common object) on the complaint of the deceased son.
The FIR stated that the victim had invited Basma Riaz Chaudhary — contesting in general elections 2024 from provincial assembly’s constituency PP-41 on a PTI ticket — to dinner at his house.
After her departure, around '20 to 25 armed men in police uniforms entered their house' and started torturing the family members.
The complainant said his house was attacked due to their support for PTI.
“They tortured my father and brought him to Pahrianwali police station at gunpoint, where he was tortured for consecutive four days to change his loyalty to PTI,” said the complainant.
“Police were threatening him that he would be killed if he did not stop supporting PTI,” said the son of the deceased, who described himself as an eye-witness of the said incident.
The complainant added that he and family members had been attempting to release the deceased since his arrest, but police did not hear their request.
The victim's son said that they had moved distircts and sessions court for the release of her father and the case fixed for today (February 6), but Khan was killed on February 5.
It is pertinent to mention here that Basma Riaz Chudhary, candidate of PTI from PP-144, is a niece of Chaudhary Shujaat Hussain.
