Pakistani politics is in a constant state of decline, with women bearing the brunt of mudslinging by opposing politicians. Politicians, sadly, lack the maturity to handle criticism and have turned politics into a petty game of revenge and mockery.

A video recently surfaced on social media, which shows alleged PTI workers, who were witnessing the oath-taking ceremony from a visitors' gallery in the KP Assembly, hurled sexist remarks against PML-N MPA Sobia Shahid.

The viral video sparked outrage from political analysts, who lamented the decline of political ethics.

It's pertinent to mention that heated incidents occurred in the National Assembly and Punjab Assembly, where PML-N and PTI members traded harsh criticism and several members of the former party waved watches to taunt the latter party, whose founder Imran Khan was convicted in the Toshakhana case for allegedly selling a gift watch from Saudi Arabia at a lower price.

Despite tensions between both parties in other houses of the assembly, no such incident of offensive behaviour occurred where all limits of ethics were crossed.

Recently, as KP’s provincial legislature held its inaugural session on Wednesday for the oath-taking of newly-elected members, tensions escalated on the assembly floor as PML-N leader Sobia Shahid entered the hall and teased PTI members by waving a watch to the audience.

Following this, empty bottles, shoes, pens, and water jugs were hurled at PML-N MPA.

The video circulating on the microblogging site ‘X’ showed that as Sobia Shahid was seated at her desk, alleged PTI workers were hurling verbal abuse at her.

Journalist Mariana Babar asked if a PTI member would raise their voice for PML-N's Sobia Shahid. Analyst Mubashir Zaidi bemoaned the targeting of women in politics and called for action to be taken against the individuals involved in this inappropriate behaviour.

Anchorperson Rabia Anum wrote,"I am a Pukhtoon and all I can say is that I am ashamed to see this and it is disheartening. This unfortunately is a sad reality of a section of this society."

"All these men in the video and those making the video and abusing the lady should be taken to the cleaners," she added.

Researcher Ammar Rashid stated, "Absolutely vile behaviour that should be acted against. Being voted into power by the public does not give anyone the right to hurl rape threats & sexually charged abuse at women. Whatever the battle, zeal & loyalty to party can never substitute discipline & ideological training."
