Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has proposed the government to impose Rs10,000 tax on meetings with party founder Imran Khan, who is currently incarcerated in Adiala jail, in order to ease the country's financial struggles.

The proposal was put forward by PTI FATA lawmaker Iqbal Afridi during a meeting of the National Assembly's Standing Committee on Energy (Power Division) on Thursday.

The meeting was chaired by Chairman Committee Muhammad Idris and attended by Federal Energy Minister Sardar Owais Leghari and other members.

Committee member Muhammad Iqbal expressed frustration over the lack of electricity in FATA regions.

"Many areas in FATA do not get electricity even for an hour. Why is this injustice happening to the tribes?" he asked.

Officials from the Power Division announced a budget allocation of Rs65 billion for FATA.

The energy minister claimed that free electricity worth Rs39 billion has been provided in these areas this year, with electricity being supplied for four hours in FATA.

Iqbal disputed the minister's claims, stating that no electricity wires have been laid in FATA since Pakistan's independence.

"Not even one billion out of Rs39 billion has been spent on electricity in FATA," he said.

However, Iqbal proposed a tax of Rs10,000 on meetings with Imran Khan, saying, "If there is any problem, then put money on the meeting with Imran Khan. The problems will be resolved."

The PTI MNA then left the meeting in anger, sources said.

The former prime minister has been in jail since last August as he is facing sentences in several high-profile cases.
