PTI has criticised authorities over the failure to conduct a recommended CT Coronary Angiography (CTA) on its founder, Imran Khan, during his recent visit to the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (Pims), and demanded that the test be carried out immediately at Shifa International Hospital.
Imran was taken to Pims early Friday for an eye procedure and other medical examinations. Doctors reportedly recommended a CTA to assess his heart condition, but the test was not performed. Hospital officials cited the unavailability of the required facility, although sources said Pims has a functional 128-slice CT scanner capable of conducting the procedure.
PTI Information Secretary Sheikh Waqas Akram said a government medical board had examined Imran on August 10, while a Pims cardiologist had recommended the cardiac scan on August 1 because of fluctuating blood pressure, palpitations, headaches, restlessness and potential cardiac risks.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has formed an inquiry committee, headed by the Establishment Division secretary, to investigate why the test was not conducted and determine responsibility.
PTI also questioned why Imran was taken to Pims instead of Shifa International, where the required facilities were reportedly available. It referred to a Supreme Court order issued on August 18 directing comprehensive medical examination and treatment at Shifa.
Akram demanded that Imran’s CTA be conducted at Shifa under independent specialists and his personal doctors. He also called for the immediate release of his complete medical records to his family, physicians and legal team.
PTI warned that further delays could endanger Imran’s health and called for a transparent investigation into the medical arrangements and the failure to conduct the recommended test.
