Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf stalwart Sher Afzal Marwat lashed out at former party leader Fawad Chaudhry, saying he has no right to criticise the current leadership of PTI.

Marwat's remarks came in response to Fawad's statement that Imran Khan won't be freed from prison "as long as the current leadership holds the party reins".

In a video message on Sunday, the former federal minister said the current PTI leadership neither had any political strategy nor the capacity to get Imran Khan Khan out of prison.

In response, Marwat made fun of Chaudhry's move on May 16, 2023, when he sprinted back into the Islamabad High Court (IHC) after seeing police arrive to arrest him in a case.

"Fawad Chaudhry was running like an elephant after seeing the police that day," Marwat said, adding that the ex-PTI spokesperson's actions made the "entire party bow down in shame".

Marwat defended the current PTI leadership, saying that despite their failures, they stood by Imran Khan in difficult times.

"They didn't run like Fawad Chaudhry when things got tough," he said, referencing the crackdown on PTI following the May 9 riots.

Fawad was one of many PTI leaders who had left the party following violence in the country on May 9, 2023, when the 71-year-old politician was arrested in the Al-Qadir Trust corruption case.

Although Fawad had said at the time that he was “taking a break from politics”, he was seen at the launch ceremony of the Istehkam-e-Pakistan Party (IPP) in June, 2023.

However, Fawad had cleared the air that he had not joined any political party.

He was arrested from Islamabad on November 4 last year in a corruption case and after facing 5-month custody, Fawad was released from Adiala jail on April 6.
