A day after Omar Ayub's resignation, the top brass of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) reposed confidence in him, urging him to continue his role as secretary general of the party.

A meeting of bigwigs on Friday expressed confidence in Ayub and rejected his resignation, which he had submitted on Thursday.

A combined statement issued by the former ruling party said that the Parliamentary Party unanimously urged top brass not to accept Ayub’s resignation and directed him to continue his services as the party’s secretary general.

According to the sources, PTI founder Imran Khan had already given the go-ahead to accept Omar Ayub’s resignation, as the party’s insiders were not expecting this move from the founder.

However, PTI’s leadership demonstrated unity, but they failed to remove intra-party rifts among colleagues.

The parliamentary party also denied reports of internal divisions and asserted that Imran Khan's leadership had united the party, denying the formation of a "forward bloc".

A senior PTI leader believed that the party's top leadership was incapable of running the party affairs with unity and overcoming intra-party issues.

He said PTI's only way was to form a strong opposition alliance with the collaboration of Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam Fazl, the Grand Democratic Alliance, the BNP, PkMAP, and Jamat-e-Islami.

Nevertheless, the present leadership has neither political strategy nor the ability to execute any plan given by Imran Khan.

However, the rift in the party came to public knowledge after at least 21 members of the party, including Shehryar Afridi, Shandana Gulzar, Sher Afzal Marwat, and others, hinted at stepping back from their positions in parliament "if the top leadership does not take action for Imran Khan’s release".
