Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) lawmaker Zain Qureshi stepped down on Saturday as the party’s deputy parliamentary leader in the National Assembly.

The move comes days after party launched an internal inquiry on the loyalty of certain lawmakers.

Taking to X today, he announced: “Based on my belief for a free and transparent inquiry and in recognition of the sentiment of our party supporters, I am resigning from my role as deputy parliamentary leader. I do so until and unless I have the confidence and trust of my party and our founding chairman, Imran Khan.”

“I was, am and will remain faithful to my party, to my leader Imran Khan and to my father and all that he stands for.”

Earlier this week, the PTI decided to take legal action against its lawmakers who had voted in favour of the 26th Constitutional Amendment.

In a video statement, Zain revealed that he was ordered to disappear by his father Shah Mehmood Qureshi.

“I could never think of voting for this constitutional amendment,” Zain stated, debunking reports of him supporting the tweaks. He labeled these claims “baseless propaganda.

It should be noted here that, last week, the National Assembly also approved 26th constitutional amendments after the government managed to secure a two-thirds majority in both the houses.
