Senior associate professors at Jinnah Sindh Medical University (JSMU) have expressed concerns over the extension of the tenure of former Sindh chief minister Qaim Ali Shah's daughter, writing to Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Defence Forces Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir and other authorities.

The professors said in their letter that the reappointment had been made under a Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC) notification issued on May 19.

They alleged that the second paragraph of the PMDC notification had been overlooked, affecting the promotions of six associate professors who were awaiting promotion.

The professors said ignoring eligible associate professors was creating a negative impression of the institution.

They pointed out that the PMDC had clearly directed that reappointment of retired faculty should not affect the promotion of other faculty members. However, they alleged that the tenure of Dr Nighat Shah had been extended in violation of the PMDC's instructions.

The letter was signed by Dr Shazia Naseeb, Dr Maimona Rehman and Dr Shafaq Ismail, while Dr Umaima Akhtar, Dr Mahrukh Haider and Dr Saira Sheikh also signed the document.

The letter was also sent to the Sindh chief minister, provincial health minister and the provincial ombudsman.
