Less than two weeks before the February 8 elections, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) unveiled its election manifesto.

Its manifesto includes plans for social and constitutional reforms, and they want to establish a Truth and Reconciliation Commission to address past injustices.

PTI’s senior leader Barrister Gohar Ali Khan, who is a contestant of NA-10, Buner, said the title of the manifesto is ‘Shandaar Pakistan, Shandaar Mustaqbil aur Kharaab Maazi sey Chutkara’.

Some catchy slogans in the manifesto written on the first page of the document are, ‘Ba-Ikhtiyar Awam, Khushal, Azad Pakistan: Towards a Bright Future, Roshan Ho Ga Humara Mustaqbal; Islamic Welfare State: Riyasat-e-Madina (Not a theocratic state) and No Prosperity without Justice and the Rule of Law’.

Barrister Gohar Ali Khan, a senior PTI leader, emphasised the manifesto's goal of creating a magnificent future and breaking free from a troubled past.

The proposed Truth and Reconciliation Commission aims not only for reconciliation but also to eliminate remnants of injustice. This involves suggesting constitutional amendments and ensuring reparations for the country.

PTI envisions a future where all citizens have equal rights and opportunities, eradicating exploitative practices. The core focus of the commission is on uncompromising justice for everyone, aiming to restore the dignity and self-respect of the people.

In terms of constitutional reforms, PTI wants to empower a directly elected prime minister and move towards a more inclusive parliamentary democracy. The plan advocates for direct elections of the prime minister, forming a cabinet of qualified individuals to propel the nation forward to prosperity chosen from the National Assembly.

The manifesto promises to reduce legislative terms to four years, advocating for inclusivity in the judiciary.

PTI commits to diversifying the judiciary by appointing judges based on merit, diversity, and gender.

Under the theme of a New Social Contract, the manifesto aims to strengthen the country's institutions, making them subservient to the Constitution of Pakistan as defined in the Constitution of Pakistan and all to be equal in front of law and the state institutions’ role would be restricted to service only.

PTI promises to revamp legal frameworks for relevance, updating laws such as the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC), the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC) and the Civil Procedure Code (CPC), to meet justice requirements.

The manifesto addresses ‘Governance Challenges and Accessible Justice’, aiming for accessible justice, and acknowledges the impact of poor governance on the populace and economic growth.

PTI aims to continue the ‘Radical Transformation of the Economy’, which transforms the growth model towards export-led growth and focuses on labor-intensive manufacturing, tourism and construction sectors and economic resilience.
