The Punjab government has decided to introduce a juvenile driving permit for teenagers aged between 16 and 18 years, allowing them to legally ride motorcycles and scooters under a regulated system.

According to details, the initiative will formally begin this week. Under the new arrangement, eligible teenagers will be issued a special driving permit enabling them to operate two-wheelers up to 125cc capacity only.

The authorities said the move is designed to bring young riders into a regulated framework rather than allowing unlicensed driving on roads.

The spokesperson added that applicants must hold either a NADRA Smart Card or a B-Form issued by NADRA. In addition, a written parental consent affidavit will be mandatory before any permit is issued.

The process will include two stages of testing. First, candidates will undergo a computerized sign test (traffic signals and road signs). Those who pass will then proceed to a practical road test. Successful applicants will be issued the permit on the spot.

The annual fee for the juvenile driving permit has been set at Rs500.
