Caretaker Chief Minister Punjab Mohsin Naqvi inaugurated the first shelter and education center "Tahaffuz Darsgah," dedicated to transgender children in Lahore on Friday.
The United Kingdom Curriculum and Accreditation Board established the state-of-the-art education centre in just 18 days to provide O and A level education to transgender children.
During his visit to Tahaffuz Darsgah, Naqvi acknowledged that the facility “might be small but its task is really big". He emphasised the urgent need to address the neglected issues of the transgender community.
He inspected the classrooms, accommodation, and other facilities and commended the UKCAB team for their dedication to making this project a reality in such a short time.
CM learned during the briefing that this institution will provide education and technical training for transgender children in a 'safe environment'.
At the inaugural ceremony, Naqvi announced that Tahaffuz Darsgah would be open to all transgender children.
He also praised Punjab IGP Dr Usman Anwar’s efforts in establishing various support centres for the transgender community, highlighting his initiatives in providing employment and diverse opportunities for them.
During his address, CM urged “the whole team running the ‘Tahaffuz Darsgah’ to devote this institution wholeheartedly for the purpose for which it has been established.”
IG Police, CCPO, Chairman UK Curriculum & Accreditation Board Zahid Bhatti, and members of the transgender community attended the ceremony.
