Punjab Police swiftly made progress in the Faisalabad motorway rape case and apprehended the main suspect after the City Police Officer (CPO) ordered his immediate arrest following a complaint from the victim’s husband.

According to authorities, police had already arrested three other suspects in connection with the case.

The gang rape incident occurred on March 25 in Chak No 62 JB Channan, near the motorway, when a couple was returning home from Agriculture University Hostel on a motorcycle. 

As per the First Information Report (FIR), three robbers on a motorcycle intercepted the couple and robbed them of Rs800 in cash, mobile phones, and the woman’s identity card.

During the robbery, they tied the husband to a tree and took the woman to a nearby sugarcane field, where they gang-raped her.

The Sandal Bar police station registered a case of rape and robbery on the victim's husband's complaint and initiated legal proceedings.

A medical examination of the woman was conducted, and the police also carried out geo-fencing of the crime scene. The forensic report, including DNA analysis, is currently in progress.

On September 9, 2020, two armed men gang-raped a woman in the Gujarpura area of the Lahore-Sialkot Motorway while she was stranded with her children after her car broke down.

The court sentenced both perpetrators, Abid Malhi and Shafqat Ali, to life imprisonment for kidnapping, 14 years imprisonment for robbery, and a fine of Rs 50,000 each.
