An anti-terrorism court (ATC) in Karachi on Thursday sentenced an alleged operative of India’s intelligence agency, the Research and Analysis Wing (RAW), to 114 years in prison after convicting him in cases relating to the possession of explosives and illegal weapons.

The court found the accused, identified as Saleem, guilty of multiple offences and imposed a cumulative fine of Rs150,000 in addition to the prison term. His bail was revoked and he was sent to jail.

According to the prosecution, Saleem was arrested by the Special Investigation Unit (SIU) of police from the Mauripur area of Karachi. At the time of his arrest, authorities said they recovered a hand grenade, an Awan rocket, a launcher, and other illegal arms from his possession.

Investigators told the court that during interrogation, Saleem admitted to having links with RAW and confessed to travelling to India on three occasions between 2012 and 2014.

The prosecution further stated that Saleem first entered Pakistan illegally from India in 1989, later obtaining Pakistani identity documents and passports through fraudulent means.

Officials said four Pakistani passports were also recovered from the accused. During questioning, he disclosed that prior to entering Pakistan, he had worked as a rickshaw driver in Bhuj, a city in the Indian state of Gujarat.
