In response to relentless monsoon rains and worsening flood conditions, the Rawalpindi administration has declared a one-day holiday across the district.
Deputy Commissioner Hassan Cheema issued an official notification early Thursday, urging residents to stay indoors and avoid unnecessary movement due to hazardous weather.
The decision came amid continuous rainfall since last night in Rawalpindi and Islamabad, which has caused significant disruption.
Low-lying areas in the city have been inundated, with storm drains overflowing and inner-city roads submerged. A large flood wave is currently passing through the Soan River, adding to the severity of the situation.
Traffic flow has been heavily affected throughout the district. Public announcements are being made through mosques, warning citizens to remain at home.

The water level in the Nullah Lai has reached a critical 23 feet at the Gawalmandi bridge and 22 feet at Katarian, dangerously close to its maximum limit of 24 feet.
Emergency sirens sounded in vulnerable areas, while all relevant departments, including Rescue 1122, WASA, and Civil Defense, placed on high alert. Officials activated emergency response protocols and are closely monitoring the situation.
The district administration warned of the risk of urban flooding if rain continues, and efforts are underway to provide relief in affected areas.
So far, no casualties have been reported, but authorities remain concerned about rising water levels and potential damage to infrastructure.
Residents are advised to follow updates from official channels and cooperate with emergency services as the city braces for further rainfall in the coming days.
