As many as 1,061 Pakistani doctors have secured residency in the United States this year — the highest number ever recorded in a single year, according to Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC) President Professor Rizwan Taj.
Among the institutions that produced the highest number of successful candidates are King Edward Medical University, Allama Iqbal Medical College, Dow Medical College, Shifa College of Medicine, Jinnah Sindh Medical University (JSMU), and Khyber Medical University.
Professor Taj credited this remarkable success to the PMDC’s commitment to academic excellence, strong oversight of medical education standards, and the development of robust curricula and comprehensive training programs.
He described the achievement as part of a transformative journey to further elevate the quality of medical education in Pakistan.

“The residency application process in the US is highly competitive,” Dr. Taj noted, emphasizing that applicants must pass the rigorous United States Medical Licensing Examination (USMLE), showcase outstanding academic records, and undergo a demanding selection process involving interviews and detailed documentation.
He praised the dedication and resilience of the successful candidates and expressed confidence that their success would reinforce PMDC’s vision of producing globally competitive healthcare professionals.
