The Karachi commissioner has imposed a two-month ban on road excavation and cutting across the city, issuing an official notification to this effect.
According to the notification, various public and private institutions have carried out road digging for utility services in recent months, leading to an increase in accidents and public inconvenience.
The commissioner noted that despite earlier restrictions, complaints of continued violations were regularly received.
The ban has been enforced under Section 144 of the Criminal Procedure Code and will remain in place for two months. During this period, all forms of road and footpath cutting will be prohibited unless prior approval is obtained.
The notification further stated that any institution or individual seeking to carry out excavation work must first secure permission from the city government and the Sindh government. Authorities said the measure aims to improve public safety, reduce traffic disruptions and prevent further damage to roads and pavements.
