The federal cabinet on Tuesday greenlit a fresh Rs50 billion defense package to bolster the national security against growing threats.

Announced by Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb at a meeting of the Economic Coordination Committee (ECC), the stimulus is intended to enhance the operational readiness of the armed forces and address emerging security challenges at home and across the border.

Under the plan, the funds will be directed toward a combination of procurement, infrastructure development and logistic upgrades for the services. Officials noted that critical assets including surveillance systems, border fencing, and mobile strike units will receive priority-investment.

While the bulk of the funding is earmarked for the army, a meaningful portion will be allocated to the navy and air force to modernize capabilities and improve rapid-response deployment.

According to the ministry, a technical supplementary grant of Rs103 million was approved for the repair of defense equipment used by the Federal Civil Armed Forces.

Similarly, a technical supplementary grant of Rs841.56 million was approved for improving border management, internal security, and law and order. In addition, a technical supplementary grant of Rs50 billion was also approved for defense services projects.
