Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) leader Saeed Ghani criticised K-Electric for unannounced load shedding during an ongoing heat wave and severe weather in the metropolis.
Speaking at the Provincial Assembly on Tuesday, Local Government Minister said that KE should be held responsible "if anyone in the port city dies of heatstroke or sweltering weather".
He advised people to enter the KE office and switch off their electricity if there is a power outage in anyone's area.
"Make them experience a power outage during the heat wave, then they can understand the difficulties of the people who are facing over 12-hour long load shedding," the PPP lawmaker said.
Ghani termed KE's actions as a 'mass punishment system' in Karachi, saying "the matter should be view as a human rights issue".
He also expressed indignation at KE's behaviour towards students who were attempting exams in a power outage.
Ghani termed KE's FIR against protesters as 'brutality' and urged people to register an FIR against the power supply company.
On the other hand, Provincial Information Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon believed that the power distribution company was subjecting Karachi residents to 'collective punishment'.
Memon slammed KE for overbilling and said it was sending bills to the consumers for 200 units on consumption of only 20 units.
Meanwhile, PPP's Heer Soho has also submitted a resolution against unannounced load shedding and overbilling.
