Security forces foiled a terrorist attack on Cadet College Wana in South Waziristan, killing two militants, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said on Monday.
According to the military’s media wing, the assailants attempted to breach the college’s security perimeter, adding that troops responded swiftly, preventing the attackers from advancing further.
It said that the attackers rammed an explosives-laden vehicle into the college’s main gate, damaging the entrance and parts of the adjoining infrastructure.
The ISPR said that two militants were killed in the exchange of fire, while three others managed to enter the college premises and became contained within the administrative block. It added that the militants were attempting to replicate an attack similar to the 2014 Army Public School tragedy.
The statement further claimed that the militants inside the college were in communication with their handlers based in Afghanistan. The ISPR reiterated that Pakistan reserves the right to respond to militant groups and their leadership allegedly operating from Afghan territory.
The military maintained that the objective of the attackers was to spread fear among youth in the tribal districts. It added that the presence of such militant outfits in Afghanistan contradicted public assurances by the Afghan Taliban.
