Scorching heatwave conditions have taken hold across much of Pakistan, with the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) warning of extreme temperatures expected to persist until at least May 19.

According to the PMD, Dadu and Sukkur in Sindh recorded the highest temperature at 43°C. Other areas also experienced intense heat, including Larkana, Jacobabad, and Bhakkar at 42°C, and Multan, Bahawalpur, Faisalabad, and Sahiwal at 41°C. Lahore reached 39°C, Peshawar 38°C, and Islamabad 37°C. Karachi recorded a maximum of 34°C, with a "feels-like" temperature of 39°C due to high humidity.

Doctors have advised residents to stay indoors during peak afternoon hours, remain well-hydrated, and take all necessary precautions to prevent heat-related illnesses, particularly heatstroke.

The PMD noted that temperatures in northern and upper regions of the country may remain 5–7°C above average until May 19, while southern regions could see temperatures 4–6°C above normal through May 20.

A westerly weather system is forecast to enter northern Pakistan on May 19, potentially bringing rainfall to areas including Kashmir, Islamabad, parts of Punjab, upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Gilgit-Baltistan through May 20.
