PM Shehbaz Sharif thanked President Trump for temporarily pausing “Project Freedom.” The operation was launched to safely escort ships through the Strait of Hormuz.
According to a statement on X, PM Shehbaz praised Trump’s “courageous leadership and timely announcement.”
He further claimed, the step was taken after requests were made by Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and other friendly nations.
Moreover, he acknowledged Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman for efforts aimed at easing tensions in the region.
Trump announced the pause on Truth Social, saying “great progress” had been achieved towards a comprehensive agreement with Iran. However, he clarified that the broader blockade linked to the conflict would remain in place while negotiations continued.
The Strait of Hormuz, a critical global oil route carrying nearly 20 percent of the world’s oil supply, has faced severe disruption since fighting between the US, Israel and Iran intensified earlier this year.
Meanwhile, PM Shehbaz said Pakistan remained committed to supporting diplomatic efforts and peaceful conflict resolution through dialogue. Furthermore, he expressed hope that the current momentum would result in a lasting agreement ensuring peace and stability in the region.
