Sindh announces public holiday for schools on January 17

The Sindh government has declared a public holiday for all educational institutions in the province in connection with Shab-e-Mairaj.

The Sindh Education and Literacy Department has issued a notification to this effect.

"In pursuance of the decision taken in the Sub-Committee meeting of Steering Committee on Education, held on 28th November, 2024, all Public & Private Education Institutions under the Administrative Control of School Education & Literacy Department, Government of Sindh, shall remain closed on Saturday, 17th January, 2026 on account of Shab-e-Mairaj (27th Rajab-1447)," read the notification.

Shab-e-Meraj is observed by the faithful every year on the 27th of Rajab in the Islamic lunar calendar.

The night marks the Isra and Mairaj, when Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him) was taken on a blessed journey and ascension, travelling through the seven heavens on Al-Buraq to meet Allah Almighty.
