The Sindh government on Wednesday announced a public holiday on February 5 on the occasion of Kashmir Solidarity Day, a notification issued by the provincial government said.

The Ministry of Services, General Administration and Coordination Department, in a notification, said that 5th February 2021 shall be a public holiday for observing Kashmir Solidarity Day.

"[...] To signify their political and moral support in the struggle for self-determination and to honour their martyrs, one minute silence shall be observed at 10:00 hrs on the same day," read the notification.

It should be noted that the federal government has already declared February 5 a public holiday. The day is included in the list of gazetted holidays of the federal government every year.

Kashmir issue remains a flash point between Pakistan and India with Islamabad constantly urging the world to hold a plebiscite on Kashmir.

The conflict prompted global outrage after Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi's unilateral decision to revoke Article 370 of the Indian Constitution that grants special status to the Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK).
