The Sindh Assembly’s special committee has approved fixing the monthly salary of its members at Rs450,000.
The committee met under the chairmanship of Speaker Owais Qadir Shah, with members from the PPP, MQM, Jamaat-e-Islami, and PTI in attendance.
While the decision to increase salaries was approved, Jamaat-e-Islami’s Muhammad Farooq opposed the move.
Earlier, on August 9, the Sindh Assembly had unanimously passed a bill allowing the increase in members’ salaries and benefits.
The bill, presented by Law Minister Zia-ul-Hassan Lanjar, was met with desk-thumping support before being approved by the house. The responsibility of deciding the final salary amount was left to the special committee.

The development follows similar moves in other assemblies. In December 2024, the Punjab Assembly raised the salary of an MPA from Rs76,000 to Rs400,000, while ministers’ pay jumped from Rs100,000 to Rs960,000.
In February this year, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also signed off on a major salary hike for parliamentarians. A committee headed by National Assembly Speaker Ayaz Sadiq approved a Rs519,000 increase in the monthly salary of MNAs and senators.
