The Sindh government has decided to reconstruct Gul Plaza, which was severely damaged in a recent fire incident in Karachi, official sources said on Friday.

According to sources, the provincial government will fund the reconstruction of the multi-storey commercial building from its own budget. The construction work is expected to be completed within one year.

Sources said that once the rebuilding process is completed, shops will be reallocated to the original allottees. The government has also sought assistance from architectural and construction experts to ensure the building is reconstructed in line with safety standards.

During the reconstruction period, arrangements will be made to provide temporary business locations to the affected shopkeepers. Sources added that the Sindh government has identified three locations where traders displaced by the fire will be allowed to run their businesses on a temporary basis.

The decision comes amid ongoing rescue and recovery operations at the site. Earlier, a senior fire officer said that human remains, rather than intact bodies, were being recovered from the debris, highlighting the severity of the blaze. Authorities have also expressed concern that additional bodies may still be present on the ground floor of the building.

The Gul Plaza incident has sparked widespread concern over fire safety measures in commercial buildings across the city. Investigations into the cause of the fire and possible negligence are ongoing.
