As part of its security strategy for Ashura, the Sindh government has formally requested the temporary suspension of mobile phone services on the 9th and 10th of Muharram, citing public safety concerns.

According to official sources, the Sindh Home Department has sent a letter to the Ministry of Interior, recommending the shutdown of mobile and internet services along the designated routes of Muharram processions across multiple districts in the province.

The request is part of precautionary efforts to prevent the misuse of communication networks, which authorities fear could be exploited to incite unrest or coordinate unlawful activities during the religious gatherings.

Large processions and gatherings are expected during the two days, which mark the culmination of the mourning period observed by Muslims, particularly on Ashura, the 10th of Muharram.

The Ministry of Interior has been asked to assess the proposal and decide based on established national security protocols.

If approved, the suspension would be temporary and localized, focusing on high-risk areas where crowd density and procession routes may present increased security challenges.
