The Sindh government on Tuesday imposed Section 144 across the province, banning all kinds of public gatherings, rallies, processions, and protests for one month in a bid to maintain law and order.

According to a notification issued by the Sindh Home Department, the decision was taken in view of increasing political activities and protest calls in various parts of the province.

The order prohibits assemblies of five or more people, and any violation will be dealt with under Section 188 of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC). The notification directs all commissioners, deputy commissioners, DIGs, SSPs, and other law enforcement officials to ensure strict implementation of the ban.

Copies of the notification have also been sent to the Ministry of Interior, Chief Secretary Sindh, Principal Secretaries to the Chief Minister and Governor Sindh, and the Director General of Sindh Rangers for necessary action.

The Home Department said the measure was “necessary to preserve public peace and order” and would remain effective for one month from the date of issuance.
