Two Karachi police officers were killed after a speeding dumper trailer rammed into a police mobile van during a routine checking operation near Chakwal Pump on the Hyderabad–Karachi Super Highway.
According to officials, a 22-wheel trailer hit the police vehicle with great force around 5:40 a.m on Monday. The vehicle got trapped beneath the truck. Sub-Inspector Sahib Khan died on the spot. Meanwhile, constable Wajid was critically trapped inside the wreckage. He later died during rescue efforts. Constable Parwarish, who was also inside the vehicle, survived the crash unharmed.
Police said the trailer driver, identified as Shahabuddin, was arrested at the scene. During initial questioning, he allegedly told investigators that he had fallen asleep behind the wheel, causing the fatal collision.
Rescue 1122 teams, Edhi volunteers, and Motorway Police rushed to the scene shortly after the incident was reported. Heavy machinery, including cranes and lifters, was used to separate the mangled police mobile from beneath the trailer and recover the trapped officers.
The bodies of the deceased officers were shifted to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital and a private hospital near Gadap City police station. Authorities confirmed that both officers were posted at Gadap City police station at the time of the incident.
Police have launched further investigations into the crash.
