A girl of eighth grade was killed after the shed of an under-construction classroom collapsed at a government girls’ high school in Badiana, Sialkot.

According to police, construction work was underway on new classrooms when the temporary shed structure suddenly fell on the student, burying her under it and causing critical injuries.

Police further reported that she passed away after not receiving timely first-aid.

CM Punjab, Maryam Nawaz, took immediate notice of the incident and ordered strict action against the responsible authorities.

On her orders, provincial education minister Rana Sikandar Hayat visited the school, met the grieving family, and initiated inquiry into the tragic incident.

Moreover, Police has registered a case against multiple officials, including the school principal, the District Education Authority CEO, the contractor and engineers, citing negligence.

Police confirmed that the CEO and principal were arrested, while raids are underway to detain the remaining suspects.

Officials also informed that the education CEO had inspected the site two days earlier but failed to enforce safety precautions. It was further reported that rescue services were informed about an hour late and the injured student was not shifted to hospital promptly causing the death.
