A teenage boy was killed and four other people were wounded after a gas cylinder explosion caused a fire in a residential building in Karachi’s North Nazimabad early Sunday morning.

According to rescue and police officials, the blast occurred at Sehri time on the top floor of Bismillah Residency, located near Hyderi Market in Block-E of North Nazimabad. He said the explosion was so powerful that it was heard several miles away.

Following the blast, two flats caught fire. A 15-year-old boy lost his life in the incident, while four people sustained injuries.

On getting information, fire tenders reached the site to control the flames. Resscue officials said that the exact cause of the explosion would be determined after the fire was fully extinguished, though initial indications suggested it may have been caused by a gas leak.

Meanwhile, the Edhi Foundation said in a statement that the injured included a 70-year-old man and a four-year-old girl. All injured persons suffered serious burn wounds and were shifted to the burns centre at Dr Ruth Pfau Civil Hospital Karachi for treatment.
