Text of Islamabad MoU signed between US and Iran

The United States and Iran have signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) in Islamabad aimed at ending hostilities and establishing a framework for a comprehensive peace agreement.

Both sides agreed to an immediate and permanent cessation of military operations and pledged not to launch attacks against each other.

The agreement states that Washington and Tehran will respect each other's sovereignty, territorial integrity and internal affairs.

The two countries aim to negotiate and conclude a comprehensive final agreement within 60 days of signing the MOU.

The United States will begin lifting its naval blockade on Iran immediately, with full removal planned within 30 days.

Iran has committed to facilitating safe commercial shipping through the Strait of Hormuz and surrounding waterways.

The US and its partners plan to support Iran's reconstruction and economic development through a proposed $300 billion package.

Washington has committed to ending sanctions on Iran as part of a future comprehensive agreement.

Iran reiterated that it will not pursue nuclear weapons and agreed to engage in discussions regarding its nuclear programme.

Both sides agreed that Iran's nuclear activities and the US regional military posture will remain unchanged pending a final agreement.

The US will permit Iranian oil exports and related financial transactions through a system of waivers.

Washington will work toward making Iran's frozen and restricted financial assets accessible.

A joint mechanism will be established to monitor implementation of the MOU and oversee progress toward a final agreement.

Formal negotiations on remaining issues will begin after confidence-building measures are implemented, with the final agreement expected to be endorsed through a binding United Nations Security Council resolution.
