The Counter Terrorism Department’s (CTD) intelligence wing arrested two employees of Pakistan Railways on charges of arms smuggling.
CTD In-charge Raja Umar Khattab reported that during a raid at Cantt Station, railway employees Sanaullah and Gul Islam were apprehended, and a sub-machine gun (SMG) along with a pistol were recovered from their possession.
The accused were allegedly smuggling arms from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to Karachi. According to the CTD official, an arms dealer in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa had provided the weapons to the railway employees.
The railway authorities have been informed about the arrest. The CTD had previously foiled an arms smuggling attempt in Karachi in April. During that operation, an in-service constable of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa police named Azharuddin was arrested, with weapons recovered from the school bag he was carrying.
Raja Umar Khattab indicated that the suspect was affiliated with an inter-provincial arms smuggling gang that supplied arms online.
The CTD officer stated that three arms dealers from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa had previously sent heavy weapons to Karachi. The CTD had earlier arrested two other members of this gang, noting that many involved in arms smuggling were either retired or terminated officials of the Frontier Corps (FC).
