President Asif Ali Zardari on Monday conferred the Nishan-i-Imtiaz (Military) on Commander of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) Naval Forces, Major General Humaid Abdulla Alremeithi, at a special ceremony held at the Presidency.

According to a statement issued by the President’s Secretariat, the award was given “in recognition of his outstanding services and contributions.”

The president said that the commander’s visit “reflected the enduring fraternal ties between Pakistan and the United Arab Emirates, which stand as a testament to the two countries’ shared commitment to deepening cooperation in all fields.”

The statement added that President Zardari praised the confidence the UAE Navy had in the professional capabilities of the Pakistan Navy and expressed readiness to support the Emirati side’s manpower needs in the future.

He further described Pakistan-UAE relations as “extraordinary and exemplary … rooted in history and strengthened by enduring people-to-people bonds,” reaffirming Islamabad’s resolve to enhance brotherly ties.

Commander Alremeithi, in response, told the president that he had a long-standing association with Pakistan, having spent four years in Karachi while graduating from the Pakistan Naval Academy.

During his visit, Maj Gen Alremeithi also met Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee (CJCSC) General Sahir Shamshad Mirza at the Joint Staff Headquarters in Rawalpindi. He was received with a guard of honour, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said.

“The two dignitaries held in-depth discussions on professional matters, reviewing the evolving global and regional geo-strategic environment,” the ISPR statement added. “Both sides emphasised the vital role of bilateral defence and security cooperation, including in the maritime domain, for regional peace and stability.”

The ISPR further noted that Maj Gen Alremeithi lauded the professionalism of the Pakistan Armed Forces, their achievements, and their sacrifices in the fight against terrorism, as well as their continued efforts for regional stability.
