As many as 11 villagers in Pano Aqil, Sukkur, were reportedly booked by police for confronting Pakistan People's Party candidates during their election campaign.

As per details, the voters confronted, Khursheed Shah, Noman Islam Shaikh and Nasir Shah in village of Hussain Kalwar two days ago, according to local media reports.

The reports said host of PPP candidates named Aneesur Rehman Kalwar and voters of the area exchanged hot words and the arguments turned violent.

The case has been registered against the villagers on the complaint of Aneesur Rehman.

It was learnt that police raided the village for the arrests following the registration of FIR, but they failed to nab a single person.

On the other hand, the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) said the armed forces would be deployed outside the “most sensitive polling stations” during general elections on February 8.

The announcement came two days after the caretaker federal cabinet approved the deployment of army personnel.

In a notification, a copy of which is available with Dawn.com, the commission said it was its duty to organise elections and make arrangements “to ensure that the election is conducted honestly, justly, fairly and in accordance with law and that corrupt practices are guarded against”.

It said the ECP had obtained the services of the armed forces for assistance in ensuring security arrangements for the conduct of the general elections. The notification detailed the responsibilities of the armed forces during the polls.
