The Vice President of the World Bank, Mamta Murthi, met Pakistan’s Minister for Economic Affairs, Ahad Cheema, where discussions were held on new human development initiatives in the country.

According to a statement issued by the Ministry of Economic Affairs, the meeting focused on strengthening cooperation between the government and the World Bank, particularly in the areas of health, education and skills development.

During the meeting, the World Bank informed officials that it is considering launching a Health Compact and a Skills Development Programme in Pakistan.

The minister welcomed the proposals, describing them as important steps towards improving key social sectors.

Ahad Cheema stated that skills development should be aligned with the needs of the economy, adding that digital solutions in primary healthcare are now essential.

He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to strengthening partnerships aimed at achieving human development goals, and emphasised the importance of improving health services through digital technology.

The minister further noted that institutions such as the International Finance Corporation are expected to play an active role in supporting health and skills-related projects.
